How to Find and Cancel Forgotten App Subscriptions

FX TechPulse Editorial · November 4, 2026

Free trials that convert to paid plans, old streaming services and apps you no longer open can quietly drain your bank account. A short audit once or twice a year can save real money.

Step 1: Check your payment statements

Go through the last three months of credit card and bank statements and highlight every recurring charge. Look for small amounts too, since a few dollars here and there can add up to hundreds per year.

Step 2: Check the app stores

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name and choose Subscriptions. On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture and choose Payments and subscriptions. Both list every active subscription billed through the store, with renewal dates.

Step 3: Check your email

Search your inbox for words like "receipt", "subscription", "renewal" and "trial". This often finds services billed directly by the company instead of through an app store.

Step 4: Decide what stays

For each one, ask: Did I use it this month? Is there a cheaper plan or a free alternative? Could I pause instead of cancel? Cancel anything you cannot answer yes to.

Step 5: Cancel the right way

Cancel in the same place you subscribed, and save the confirmation email or a screenshot. Check the next statement to make sure the charge stopped. If you are charged after canceling, contact the company and, if needed, your bank.

A calendar reminder a day before each trial ends is the simplest way to avoid the problem in the first place.
