Safe Online Shopping: A Checklist Before You Click Buy
FX TechPulse Editorial · October 17, 2026

Online shopping is convenient, but it also attracts fraudsters. A few minutes of checking before paying can save you a lot of trouble.
Check the store
- Search for reviews outside the store's own site.
- Look for a real address, contact details and clear return policy.
- Be careful with brand-new sites offering huge discounts on popular goods.
- Check the web address for small spelling changes.
Check the connection
Make sure the page uses HTTPS. The padlock does not prove that a store is honest, but its absence on a payment page is a red flag.
Pay safely
- Use a credit card or a trusted payment service, which usually offer better dispute rights than bank transfers.
- Consider virtual or one-time card numbers if your bank offers them.
- Never pay by gift card, crypto or direct transfer to a stranger.
Protect your account
Use a unique password and two-factor authentication on shopping accounts. Avoid saving card details on sites you rarely use.
Beware of messages
Fake delivery texts and refund emails are common. Do not click the link. Open the store's app or type the address yourself.
After the purchase
Keep order confirmations, review your statement, and report suspicious charges quickly. Shopping with care means you can enjoy the deals without the worry.
