Calendar Habits and Time Blocking for a Calmer Week
FX TechPulse Editorial · October 15, 2026

Most people use their calendar only for appointments. Used well, it can also be a tool for deciding how you spend your time.
What is time blocking?
Time blocking means reserving slots in your calendar for specific kinds of work, not just meetings. For example, 9:00 to 11:00 for deep work, 11:00 to 11:30 for email.
How to start
- List your top priorities for the week.
- Estimate how long each takes, and add a buffer.
- Place the most demanding work when your energy is highest.
- Block time for breaks, meals and commuting.
- Keep some free space for surprises.
Useful calendar features
Color-coding by category, recurring events, reminders, shared calendars for family or team, and time zone support. Turn off notifications you do not need.
Protect your focus
Mark deep-work blocks as busy so others do not book over them. Batch similar tasks, such as replying to messages twice a day.
Review and adjust
Every Friday, look at what happened. Which tasks took longer? What can move? Planning gets more realistic with practice.
Do not overschedule
A packed calendar leaves no room for rest. Include free time and leave margins between tasks. The aim is not to control every minute, but to spend your attention on what you care about.
