Battery life depends on both how much power your phone uses each day and how healthy the battery is over the years. These habits help with both.

Reduce daily drain

  • Lower screen brightness or use automatic brightness. The display is usually the biggest power consumer.
  • Shorten the screen timeout so the display turns off sooner.
  • Turn on dark mode if your phone has an OLED screen. Dark pixels use less power.
  • Check battery usage in settings and restrict background activity for apps you rarely use.
  • Turn off location access for apps that do not need it, or set it to "only while using".
  • Use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data when possible, and switch to low-power mode when the charge is low.

Protect the battery's lifespan

  • Avoid extreme heat. Do not leave the phone in a hot car or under a pillow while charging.
  • Try to keep the charge between roughly 20 and 80 percent when convenient. Many phones offer an optimized or limited charging setting that does this automatically.
  • Use a certified charger and cable, since cheap ones can charge poorly or unsafely.

Keep the software updated

Updates often include power-management improvements. If the battery still drains fast after a year or two, check the battery health screen in settings. A replacement battery from an authorized service is often cheaper than buying a new phone.
